According to Bulgarian laws, the maximum permissible blood alcohol content is 0.49 ppm. For the device to show such figures, a man weighing 80 kg would need 750 ml of beer or 300 g of wine. However, everything depends on the individual organism, so the only reliable rule is not to drive after any amount of alcohol. For comparison: in Russia the norm is set at 0.3 ppm.
Local police rarely stop motorists in rental cars, but have the right to conduct alcohol tests on the spot. The data is sent directly from the device to the server. After the “purging” it will not be possible to come to an agreement with the police!
The punishment for drunk driving
The punishment for drunk driving in Bulgaria depends on the amount of alcohol in the blood:
- 0.5 – 0.8‰ – fine 500 leva, deprivation of rights for 6 months;
- 0.8 – 1.2‰ – fine of 1000 leva, deprivation of rights for 1 year;
- 1.2‰ – imprisonment (!) for up to 1 year.
Police officers can test the driver for alcohol content in their breath. If the test shows a positive result, you will have to undergo examination in a laboratory. For refusal of examination, a fine of 2000 leva is imposed.
